Photos - Days 6 - 10 St Jean Pied de Port - Arette La Pierre St Martin ( posted July 14th )

Leaving St Jean we head steadily east towards the eastern Basque province of Béarn. The valleys are forested but the hills mainly above 1,000 metres are frequently open and in places quite like Dartmoor. Beyond Iraty we reach the limestone country with precipitous gorges and, by Day 10, extensive areas of limestone karst. The weather remains mainly hot and sunny with morning valley mist creating beautiful photos as we climb above it. We meet up with 2 delightful French ladies, Hélène and Julienne with whom we share much of the next 10 days walking.
