Photos - Days 26 - 30 Estaing d'Araing - Couflens ( posted August 10th )

The Ariège is remote, depopulated and has very few tourist facilities. Fortunately our good friend Peter joins us for 2 weeks to drive our camper-van and take us down to camp sites and a tent from pre-arranged rendez-vous points on the GR10. In a rest day we go to the Col du Portet d'Aspet to watch the Tour de France pass by. There are remains of earlier mining sites abandoned at the end of World War II, tiny villages and plenty of remote shepherds' huts should we encounter bad weather. The trail zigzags up remote valleys - quite a lot of trekkers take short-cuts here but we follow it all the way.
